An Automated Aquaponics Care System Using Digital Smart Tools

Combining the process of raising fish (aquaculture) and the soil-less growing of plants (hydroponics) that grows fish and plants in one environment is called Aquaponics. The fish waste delivers an organic food source for the growing plants and the plants provide a natural filter for the water the fish live in. The main participant is the nitrifying bacteria that does the job of converting the ammonia from the fish waste first into nitrites, then into nitrates and the solids into vermicomposting that are food for the plants. In this work, an electronic care to control the suitable environment for the growing plants is provided to automate the whole process. Electronic sensors to get the humidity level, air temperature, and water level are employed to apply the aim of this work. A simple graphical user interface is implemented to set the optimal parameters for each plant that later will be used during the growing phase.
