The business being proposed here is that of a hybrid power bike called BONGA POWER BIKE that uses both Photo-voltaic solar panels and dynamo technology to produce electricity from solar energy and the effort of the user respectively. BONGA Power bike converts mechanical energy generated when pedaling into electrical energy. The electricity produced is stored in a battery with USB ports to charge phones, in-built radio and speakers, micro chip reader, uses WIFI etc. BONGA power bike combines physical activity with electricity generation while helping the user to become fit, hence, preventing non-communicable diseases like obesity, diabetes, hypertension etc. The same technology is used on horse carts and any other bicycle to produce electricity. Thirty minutes of pedaling produces electricity that lights 7 bulbs for 12 hours, charge phones, laptops, power radio etc. The power kit can be attached to any bicycle, horse carts or an object in motion to produce electricity. The primary business model is hardware –perpetual licensing/ one off sale and/ or using pay-as-you-go mobile payment services. Other primary business model is mobile software subscription (for new contents on the virtual bikes) and payment in installments for the spinning studios in schools.
Six hundred million persons living in Sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to electricity for basic needs e.g charge phones and there is rapid increase in non-communicable diseases.
Our solution is a hybrid of a stationary exercise bike with solar panels that produces and stores electricity from the effort of the user and the sun respectively.
