Many parents struggle with a deep sense of denial once they learn their child has a physical, mental or learning disability due to the “social stigma” surrounding it, but once they come to terms with the condition they are faced with the dilemma of “so, now what?” when it comes to finding a decent educational facility for early intervention programs to support and develop challenged learners. There is no question that there is a lack of both information on available resources and a lack of sufficient resources if they do admit to the problem once their child is diagnosed. Assuming that some parents were privileged enough to get their children through a good education to develop their skills, what are their chances in Egypt once they grow into young adults? The Egyptian Labour Law enforces employment of 5% special needs on a company’s payroll, a theoretical habit whereby they receive a pay slip for doing nothing, becoming a charitable commitment rather than an inclusive effort. The Ministry of Social Solidarity states that there are almost 750,000 individuals diagnosed with varying types of disabilities in Egypt demonstrating a huge potential for introducing a service that can address this need gap. Survey findings reveal that 70% believe that having a company that offers dedicated recruitment services for special needs would be beneficial while 66% assert that parents of special needs lack sufficient access to services. Mada was conceptually created in recognition of these challenges. Mada aims to: • Connect special needs with service providers worldwide (e.g. medical services, schools, centers… etc.) • Provide a platform for parents and/or special needs children to reach out and share their experiences. • Pave a recruitment channel for qualified people with disabilities and experienced carergivers.
